Single Implants in Byford
Look and Feel Confident with Single Implant Treatment
A missing tooth can cause a lot of issues – from difficulty chewing and speaking to an overall loss of self-confidence. It’s not just about the functional problems that come with missing teeth, it’s also about how you feel when you smile. You deserve to feel confident and beautiful again, and that’s where single implants can help.
A single implant replaces a single damaged or missing tooth. During this dental procedure, a single implant is placed into the jaw bone, where it gradually fuses with the bone over time. Once a dental crown is attached to the dental implant, you will be able to enjoy a natural-looking tooth that feels just like your real one. At Byford Smiles, we use the latest technology and techniques to ensure that your dental implant procedure is as seamless as possible. Advantages of Single Implants
Imitate Natural Teeth
One of the significant advantages of single implants is that they look, feel, and function like natural teeth. You can chew and eat whatever you want without worrying about damaging your teeth. And with healthy, natural-looking teeth, you can smile with confidence.
Secure and Durable
Single implants are anchored directly into the jawbone, providing a secure, stable foundation for artificial teeth. This makes them so much easier to care for - you don't have to remove them for brushing and flossing. And since they are fixed in place, you can rest assured that your single implant is secure and will not come loose or fall out.
Maintains Bone Density
When you lose a tooth, the bone around the tooth begins to deteriorate. However, when you replace your natural tooth root with a single implant, the implant helps to stimulate bone growth and prevent bone loss. Therefore, you can prevent further dental problems and keep your oral health in check.

FAQ's About
Single Implants
Am I an eligible candidate for single implants?
You must have a strong jaw bone to qualify for single implants. Your gums and other teeth must also be healthy to be considered an eligible candidate for this procedure. It is essential that your dentist conducts a comprehensive examination and evaluates your medical history. Serious medical conditions like diabetes, liver disease, or bleeding disorders may rule you out as a candidate for dental implants. There are also factors to consider related to oral health habits, such as smoking, teeth grinding, and more.
In case of low bone density, a bone graft can be performed. Similarly, if you have periodontal disease, you can get gum disease treatment in order to receive a single implant.

What are the risks of single implants?
Single implants are considered a minor dental surgery; however, like any surgeries, they still carry a few risks. The following risks are associated with single implants:
- Infection at the implant site
- Nerve damage
- Sinus problems
- Implant failure
It is best to consult with your dentist if you suspect that something is wrong with your implant. Additionally, our skilled dentists will discuss with you each risks and the certain actions you can take to prevent or reduce them.
What happens during a single implant procedure?
Placing a single implant involves several phases and may take six to nine months to complete. First, your dentist will examine your gums, teeth, and jaw bone to ensure there is enough bone for the dental implant.
A surgical procedure will then be performed to place the implant. During the procedure, your dentist will cut into your gums to expose the bone and drill holes in it. Then, the dental implant will be inserted into the bone and serve as an artificial tooth root. After the surgery, you will have time to heal and for the implant and bone to fuse. This could take between three and six months. Following the healing process, the abutment screw will be attached to the implant post.
Once the implant grows well enough into the bone to support chewing, your dentist will take an impression or get a 3D scan of your mouth. The impression will be used to create custom crowns in a dental laboratory. Your dentist will attach your custom-made replacement tooth to the abutment as soon as it is ready.
Are there any restrictions after getting single implants?
Please note the following restrictions after your single implant surgery to ensure a quick, painless, and complication-free healing process:
- After the dental implant procedure, do not remove the gauze pads from your mouth for at least an hour.
- During the dental implant surgery, anaesthesia will be administered. For the next 24 hours, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery. Make sure someone will drive you home from the dental clinic.
- For the first 24 hours after the dental implant surgery, avoid drinking from a straw and eating or drinking overly hot or cold.
- Don’t floss until you have been instructed to do so by your dentist
- Do not vigorously rinse your mouth as this will irritate the surgical site.
- Do not smoke and drink alcohol.
- Strenuous activities should be avoided for at least three to four days following the dental implant procedure.
Further instructions will be given by our competent dentists, and if any untoward situations arise after your implant procedure, contact our clinic immediately.
Does my insurance cover single implants?
Private health insurance companies typically do not cover single implants. If your policy has a major dental extras cover that includes dental implants, you may be able to get your health fund to pay for a fraction of the treatment cost. It is best to contact your insurance provider to check if single implant treatment is included in your coverage and how much you may have to pay.
